EOS Announcement for MS390/MS410/MS425 & Upgrade path to C9300

Cisco has announced the End of Life for MS390, MS410 & MS425 with all models being replaced by the new Catalyst C9300 series which can now be monitored and configured from the Meraki Dashboard. The MS390 End-of-Sales Date: 28th of March 2025 and the MS410/MS425 End-of-Sales Date: 28th of March 2025. End of Sale does not meant End of Support. Here are the key reasons why someone currently using or considering those models should look at the Catalyst 9300 series instead:

Enhanced Performance and Scalability

  • Higher Throughput: Catalyst 9300 offers up to 1TB of stacking bandwidth, making it ideal for high-performance and high-density environments.
  • Advanced Uplinks: Supports modular uplinks with options for 1G, 10G, 25G, 40G, and up to 100G (C9300X models), providing greater flexibility and future-proofing for evolving network demands.

Improved Power Capabilities

  • Up to 90W UPoE+ Support: Provides data and power over a single cable to power devices like wireless access points, digital signage, security cameras, thermal cameras with PTZ features, LED lighting fixtures and large display screens.
  • StackPower: Allows the pooling of power resources across switches, increasing power redundancy and capacity for PoE devices.

Security

  • Integrated multi-factor authentication for Dashboard management
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) with granular device and configuration control
  • Corporate wide password policy enforcement
  • IEEE 802.1X RADIUS and MAB, hybrid authentication and RADIUS server testing
  • Single-Host/Multi-Domain/Multi-Host/Multi Authentication
  • DHCP snooping, detection and blocking, Dynamic ARP Inspection
  • IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs
  • Adaptive Policy

Superior Management and Operational Efficiency

  • Unified Management: Managed through the Meraki dashboard, offering a seamless and intuitive interface for managing network operations across different sites and devices.
  • Zero-Touch Provisioning: Simplifies deployment with automated configuration and updates from the cloud, reducing the time and effort required for setup and maintenance.
  • Proactive Insights: Provides advanced analytics, real-time health monitoring, and guided troubleshooting to quickly identify and resolve issues.

Future-Proofing and Flexibility

  • Modular Design: The Catalyst 9300’s modular uplink design allows for easy upgrades and scalability as network demands grow.
  • Investment Protection: Built to support future technologies and standards, ensuring a longer lifecycle and better return on investment.

Additional Considerations

  • With the MS390, MS410 & MS425 being phased out, transitioning to the Catalyst 9300 ensures continued support, updates, and access to the latest features and security enhancements.
  • Comprehensive Support: As a part of the Catalyst family, the 9300 series benefits from Cisco’s extensive support and ecosystem, ensuring reliable performance and integration with other Cisco solutions.

Summary

Switching from the MS390 to the Catalyst 9300 offers significant advantages in performance, scalability, power management, security, and operational efficiency. The Catalyst 9300 is better suited to meet the demands of modern networks and provides a future-proof solution that aligns with Cisco’s strategic direction.
